Let Your Light Shine: Nurturing the Spirit Within

by Amanda Jane Wilson.

In our busy lives, it is very easy to become blinkered. We hurry from one thing to another, caught up in a fast-paced world, and we do not always stop to reflect on the things that really matter.

Yet we are so much more than our physical selves. We are spirit and energy, and the highest form of that energy is love.

The physical person is always changing, growing and experiencing life, but within each of us there is something deeper. There is our awareness, our consciousness, our light, our soul and our spirit. It is that eternal part of ourselves which observes and experiences the world through the unique individual that each of us has become.

That is why it is so important to make time to slow down and reconnect with our inner selves.

Finding Balance in a Busy World

We live in a world which can often feel divided. There is darkness, uncertainty and constant change around us. Against that background, finding balance becomes increasingly important.

We need to care for the mind, the body and the soul. Just as we look after our physical wellbeing, we should also make time to nurture the spirit within.

Sometimes that simply means stopping. Give yourself time to reflect, to become aware of the present moment and to recognise the light within you.

Do not be afraid to let that light shine.

Nurturing Ourselves and Each Other

Nurturing our spirit also means recognising the importance of love, including love for ourselves.

Self-love is not something we should feel guilty about. We need to do things for ourselves and take care of our own hearts and souls. When we nurture ourselves, we are better able to send love and kindness out into the world around us.

A kind thought can matter. A loving action can matter. The energy that we put into the world through the way we treat other people can make a difference.

Caring for Mother Nature

Our connection does not end with ourselves or with other people. We are also part of the natural world.

We can see changes taking place around us, including changes in our weather and environment. Human beings are remarkably good at adapting, but we also have a responsibility to respect and nurture Mother Nature.

She nurtures us, so we should nurture her in return.

This connection between ourselves, one another and the natural world reminds us that spirituality is not something separate from everyday life. It is reflected in how we live, how we care for ourselves, how we treat other people and how we care for the world around us.

Remember the Spirit Within

So, amid everything that happens in life, remember that you are not simply a physical being.

Take time to nurture your heart. Nurture your soul and your spirit. Care for Mother Nature. Send love out to others and make space for kindness, both towards other people and towards yourself.

Most importantly, remember the light that is within you.

Let your light shine.
