Sometimes things happen at exactly the right moment.
Just before Peter gave the reading during our service, I wandered away from my chair while listening through my headphones and managed to stub my toe rather painfully on a book on the floor. I hobbled back to my chair rubbing my toe, only to discover that the reading was all about healing!
It seemed particularly appropriate because healing was already very much in my thoughts.
Healing Is Something We Can All Share
Healing is a subject that means a great deal to me because I believe it is something we are all capable of experiencing and sharing.
We can receive healing. We can give healing. We can offer healing to others, and we can simply take time to sit within that healing power ourselves.
If you have never experienced spiritual healing in a Spiritualist church, I would encourage you to explore it. Taking a little time away from everything else and allowing yourself to sit quietly in that peaceful atmosphere can be a wonderful experience.
A healer might gently place their hands on your shoulders, or they may simply sit beside you. There can be something very special about taking that time for yourself and becoming aware of the peaceful, healing atmosphere around you.
Finding Peace in a Busy World
We live busy lives. There always seems to be something demanding our attention.
Some days are good. Some days are not so good. And, if we are truthful, some days are downright awful.
That is part of the human experience. We are not here to experience only happiness. Our lives contain an enormous spectrum of emotions and experiences. There is the good and the bad, the funny and the sad, the joyful and the painful.
Healing does not necessarily mean pretending that those difficult experiences do not exist. Sometimes healing is about finding the strength, peace and support we need as we travel through them.
There Are Healers All Around Us
When we talk about healers, we can easily think only about those people who practise spiritual healing formally. But I believe healers walk amongst us every day.
A healer can be the person who uplifts you when they walk into a room.
It can be somebody who makes you feel a little better simply because they have listened to you. Perhaps they have given you a hug, smiled when you needed it, offered a few words of comfort or allowed you to cry on their shoulder.
These simple actions can help carry a little of another person’s burden.
That is healing too.
And if you are the person offering that smile, listening to somebody who needs to talk, giving words of comfort or simply making space for another person, perhaps you are offering more healing than you realise.
The Energy We Share
We all affect one another.
You might imagine each of us moving through life surrounded by our own aura and energy. As we encounter other people, those energies meet. Sometimes another person’s presence can uplift us, comfort us or help us to find a sense of peace.
We can offer that same upliftment to others.
Healing, therefore, does not always need to be something dramatic. It can be found in our relationships, our presence and the energy we bring into the lives of the people around us.
Healing Through the Earth
There is also healing to be found in our connection with the natural world.
Wherever you are now, take a moment to notice your feet touching the ground.
Think about the earth beneath you and the trees around us that have been here far longer than any of us. Allow yourself, just for a moment, to become aware of that connection.
Feel the peace.
Feel yourself becoming settled.
Feel that sense of calm.
Sometimes we become so caught up in our worries and our busy lives that we forget we are part of something much greater than ourselves. Simply reconnecting with the earth and the natural world can help us regain a sense of perspective and peace.
The Sun Will Rise Tomorrow
One of my favourite thoughts is that the sun will always rise tomorrow.
Whatever kind of day we have experienced, the sun sets and another day follows. There is something reassuring in that rhythm.
Life will contain good days and bad days. We will experience happiness and sadness, laughter and difficulty. But throughout those experiences, healing is available to us in many different forms.
It can be found in the spiritual healing offered within our churches. It can be found in the kindness of another person. It can be found in a hug, a smile, a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. It can be found in the energy we share and in those quiet moments when we reconnect with the earth beneath our feet.
And perhaps most importantly, it is something we can offer to one another.
We can all receive healing.
We can all give healing.
And sometimes, simply being there for another person can be one of the most powerful forms of healing we have to offer.
