During our Divine Service on Sunday evening, something quite special happened before I even began speaking. While others were sharing their words, I was given a thought very clearly — that our words run alongside each other and carry energy from one person to another. It felt important, and I knew straight away that it was something I should share with everyone.
It made me stop and think about something very simple: how much do our words really affect the people around us?
Sometimes we forget the power that words hold. The simplest phrases can carry the greatest meaning. Saying “I love you”, expressing gratitude, or showing appreciation to someone can have a profound impact on their day — and sometimes even their life.
A kind word can lift someone who is struggling. A moment of appreciation can remind someone that they are valued. Words have a way of travelling much further than we realise.
Starting the Day with Positive Intention
One of the thoughts I wanted to share with everyone was about how we begin our day.
Before the rush of daily life begins, it can be helpful to take a quiet moment and set a positive intention. A simple affirmation can help shift our mindset and prepare us for the day ahead.
You might start the morning by saying something like:
“Today is going to be a positive day.”
“Today I will share kindness.”
“Today I will spread love.”
These small intentions can shape the way we move through the day. When we start with positivity, we naturally carry that energy into the way we speak and interact with others.
Sharing Love Throughout the Week
I encouraged everyone during the service to take this thought into the coming week — to be aware of the words we use and the energy we send out into the world.
When we share kindness, it creates kindness.
When we express gratitude, it encourages more gratitude.
And when we speak with love, we invite more love into our lives.
Spiritual teachings often remind us that what we give out comes back to us. In many ways, our words are the seeds we plant in the lives of others.
A Simple Thought to Take Away
As you move through the week ahead, perhaps pause occasionally and think about the words you speak — both to others and to yourself.
Are they kind?
Are they uplifting?
Are they encouraging?
Sometimes the smallest words can carry the greatest meaning.
A Gentle Reminder
The message that came through on Sunday evening was beautifully simple: be mindful of your words and the love you share.
If we can begin each day with positive intention, speak with kindness, and share gratitude with the people around us, we can help create a little more light in the world.
And sometimes, that light begins with just a few simple words.
